Power Skating:

Basics & Beginners

Intro to Hockey- House League

Program Focus:

Power skating skills including balance, stance (power-position), stride, introduction to edges, including stops, tight-turns and crossover. The goal is to provide a strong foundation for your child so they understand skating terminology and how various skills are applied. We would seek to introduce stick and puck skills so your child comes out of each session with a rounded skill set.

Valkyrie H0ckey has been facilitating Tyke programs for various associations for the past number of years. Players who cannot play in these GTHL sanctioned programs are more than welcome to join our program while we eagerly wait until January to start league programming again.

Power Skating

House League-Select, Rep Girls B/BB, Rep Boys A

Program Focus:

True to it's name, this program will be traditional power skating, and as power skating is the number 1 skill which all players, of all ages and skills, need to continually practice, there is a high likelihood that this program is right for your child! We will be doing "line-skating" which focuses on stride balance and posture. As well as "edge-work", which involves skills like tight-turns, transitions, stopping and more complex skills like mohawks and outside edges. Pucks may be incorporated but are not the focus.

Program Focus:

Provide in depth explanations of technical skills that will further your child's understanding of stick and puck skills. Types of shots taught will include wrist shot, snap shot, high-flick shot, slap-shot and backhands. At these practices Valkyrie Hockey will provide "obstacle course" and "stations" set ups which will include progressional stick handle drills, often combined with passes and shots. Valkyrie Hockey will also set up our "Give-n-Go" passers which are advanced training tools that will upgrade your child's passing and provide a unique training opportunity. The goal for players is to be confident taking any type of shot, making any type of pass and utilizing any type of evasive maneuvers that will help them to be successful in their games.

High Intensity, Endurancence and Agility

Suggested Age's:

11-17

Suggested Skill Level:

Meant to be a program for player who already have an advanced skating skill set.

Program Focus:

The goal of this program is to provide a full and comprehensive understanding of advanced edge work. To challenge your child's endurance level and excel their capabilities through high intensity training. Goal's for these player is to be able to do all types of mohawks, outside edge stops and it's variations, increase foot speed to create agility, to bridge the gap between backwards skating and forwards, to become just as fast going backwards, to be extremely confident with transitions at high speeds, to create power and to maximize speed and strength. Puck Skills may be incorporated but are not the focus.
